Hello everyone, 

I just can’t get past the headline– Exxon reports 9.4 billion profit–IN ONE QUARTER!  I guess we should be happy they have to report it. What about their employees. Can you imagine finding out your company makes close to 40 billion a year and you are earning $8.00 an hour shoveling out smokes. For those employees that just figured it out– I’m sorry. I am all for free enterprise, so I shouldn’t complain. However, where is the competition that brings a profit to a normal amount. Can you make this kind of money without influencing the marketplace.

I am in the auto repair business and I would love to charge $2,000 for an oil change.  But I don’t believe I would be real busy (one a day would be fine though). 9.4 Billion in 3 months. Think of this the next time you fill up!

 Did you hear the investigation into the fires after crash tests for the Chevrolet Volt has concluded. Late getting the information about the fire-quick wrapping up the investigation-Good for GM. General Motors said the NHTSA investigation is consistent with their own results. Read what you want into that!

Hello everyone,      (Commentary)

Gov. O’Taxme (I mean Gov. O’Malley-sorry) stated in a radio interview that he would rather have a raise to the sales tax (he’s been there and done that) than have a raise in the Gas tax. But don’t worry– Mike Miller is going to protect us! He says a raise in the sales tax is not possible. 

So, threaten sales tax increase– then gas tax doesn’t look that bad. 

The next 90 days of the General Assembly are going to be painful if we let it. Speak up now. Also, Michael Busch was also recognized by the legislature as the longest serving speaker in Maryland History. Lucky Us!

Say no to the Gas Tax, Sales Tax– Say yes to Government Reduction in Maryland.

Happy New Year and welcome to this Saturday’s tease. $5 a gallon gas– say it ain’t so! Sanctions against Iran could make it possible. Devil’s advocate– Every year a threat of $5. gas is thrown at us. We’ll see!

We are now waiting for a written response from a Judge in California on the lawsuit in small claims court brought on by Heather Peters. She is sueing because her Honda Civic Hybrid is not getting near the 50 miles per gallon that the EPA sticker stated. This could be a landmark case– If everyone sued and won for $10,000.00 that felt they didn’t get the correct mileage– WOW!

 Another possible reason for a gas price increase is the ending of the ethanol subsidy. The price of E-10 fuel could go up over 5 cents. I wouldn’t miss it at all!

Bad news– a number of fatal accidents in our area this holiday season.

Please— drive carefully this new year’s eve and do not drive drunk. If you are planning on drinking, have a designated driver who is not drinking or plan on staying where you are! There are free cab services available in almost every metropolitan area. Use their services this new year’s eve.

Saturday morning, we will talk about some investigations that NHTSA is performing on some Ford and GM vehicles.

I gotta say– our freedoms and the use of common sense in this country are rarer everyday. Because of a 19 year old in Missouri causing a chain reaction crash in 2010, NTSB is recommending a complete ban on cellphone use in our automobiles-not even blue-tooth or factory installed hands free. However, GPS devices are ok– what a crock. I personally have been more distracted by a GPS than a cell phone-but I feel confident I am safe using either. I realize people do stupid things– but Laws don’t stop stupidity. They only inconvenience all of us (assuming your not one of the stupid ones!)

I think we should find out who are the top 5 people at the NTSB and catch them using their cell phones while driving– You know they are!  NTSB chairperson is Deborah Hersman. Deborah– we’re watching you!
